How-to: Window Coverings for Angled Windows

Angled windows may be architecturally beautiful, but they pose some difficulty when choosing window coverings to control light and privacy. Hunter Douglas has a range of window covering products that can be made to fit your problem window. There are hard products to choose from – wood blinds (Parkland) or shutters (New Style or Palm Beach). If you prefer a softer look– honeycomb cellular shades (Applause, Duette), fabric / sheer shades (Nantucket, Silhouette, Pirouette, Vignette) can all be made in specialty shapes as well. There will, of course, be some limitations depending on the size and shape of your window. Some of the products may need to be fixed (non-operable), while others can be manipulated using manual controls or with a remote control.

This country home posed a challenge – the clients wanted to preserve their amazing view, but found that the sun shining through the south facing windows was too intense and heated up the space to unbearable temperatures. We selected Duette honeycomb shades as they have very good insulating properties (against both heat and cold) – the fabric used is light filtering as they didn’t want to eliminate all light in the space. Another challenge is the height of the windows – the client opted to use manual controls for the lower shades that are easy to reach. The two triangular shades are stationary, while the PowerView was used for the upper rectangular shades allowing them to be operated by a remote control or through a mobile device using the PowerView App.

Don’t despair if you have angled windows to cover – there is a solution! We can assess your windows and advise you as to which window covering treatment will best suit your style and needs.
